Liberal Democrats win in Aston by-elections after Labour fraud

Yesterday saw the re-runs of the 2004 Local Elections in the Aston and Bordesley Green wards of Birmingham City Council. The re-runs were required after Labour were found guilty of vote-fraud earlier this year. The Liberal Democrats won the three Aston Seats and the PJP two and Labour one of the Bordesley Green seats.

The make-up of Birmingham City Council is now:

Labour 47

Conservative 39

Liberal Democrat 31

PJP 2

Vacancy 1

Birmingham City Council will continue to be run by a joint administration of the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. Earlier this a Labour Councillor for Tyburn ward resigned and a by-election will take place in due course.
