Plan to build flats on green open space opposed3.11.07pm GMT Sun 18th Dec 2005
Park Ward Liberal Democrats were shocked to discover that a Housing Association has submitted a planning application to the City Council for 14 flats on the green open space at the junction of Gibbs Street and Coleman Street in Whitmore Reans. This much loved open space could soon be covered in yet more residences bringing an end to the peace and quiet enjoyed by residents of the area. The open space was deliberately created when the old closely packed Victorian terraces were demolished to give future generations a breathing space. Robin Lawrence, Park Ward Lib Dem candidate, said "Fourteen flats are not needed here. Coleman Street and Gibbs Street are well known for being quiet areas of Wolverhampton and all that will happen with further housing is an increase in traffic and noise and a reduction in the quality of life for current residents." Robin Lawrence has already written to Wolverhampton Council's Planning Department to lodge his objection to the plans and is encouraging other local residents to do the same . Robin went on to say "Time is very tight. Objections to the plans have to be with the council by 3rd January 2006. Local residents and the Liberal Democrats can make sure that this development does not happen if we act quickly." The Park Focus Team has launched a petition and will call on all homes in the area in the few days before Christmas.
