Threat to Park Ward open green space defeated12.27.00am GMT Wed 11th Jan 2006
Thanks to a great deal of hard work by local residents and the Liberal Democrats, a planning application to build 14 flats on the green land at the corner of Gibbs Street and Coleman Street has been rejected. The City's Planning Committee was confronted with one of the largest ever residents' protests and refused to accept the proposals out of hand. Over 1000 residents signed a petition or registered their objections with Park Ward Lib Dem Focus Team. Welcoming the common sense decision Robin Lawrence said, "This is a victory for the wishes of the residents." Robin went on to say that he was appalled at the apparent lack of concern or action from the current Labour councillors in Park ward. "It has become increasingly clear to me and to other Park Ward residents that the Liberal Democrats are the only party of local action."
