low energy bulbs save money and help cut CO2 emissions

Park Ward's Lib Dem candidate, Robin Lawrence, has joined Dr Matt Prescott, organiser of the Oxford Earth Summit and director of www.banthebulb.org, in calling for a far greater use of energy efficient light bulbs. Robin was shocked to discover that 10% of Britain's energy consumption is caused by use the use of lightbulbs with most of that energy being wasted on inefficient old style incandescent bulbs.

Robin said that "While energy efficient bulbs might seem to be expensive each bulb can save up to £7 per year in electricity charges." He welcomed moves by Britain's major supermarkets and DIY stores to stock a wider range of energy efficient bulbs but is calling of the Government to take further action. "A simple piece of legislation banning the use of old style energy consuming bulbs would save residents pounds and cut carbon dioxide emissions greatly."

Robin is encouraging Park Ward's residents to vote Liberal Democrat in the local council elections and to join him in his campaign to support a change in the law.
