Robin Lawrence warns of fake charity collectors4.01.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 11th Sep 2006
On Saturday (9th Sept) Robin Lawrence received a small leaflet asking for unwanted good quality clothing and other items to be put out for collection day on Monday. The proceeds would support third world orphans. Knowing that genuine charities provide plastic bags with their name clearly printed Robin was suspicious and investigated. He found that Staffordshire County Council Trading Standards had warned about the company behind these leaflets. Other members of the Focus Team received similar leaflets from a different company and again, Trading Standard have issued warnings about them.
Robin organised a Focus which was delivered on Sunday in the areas where he though the fake collectors would collect on Monday. You can find a PDF version of this Focus in the Park section of the Download area of this site. Robin Lawrence said "If you receive a card or leaflet from any of the above scams please do not give them anything. Take the clothing to a Charity Shop instead." The Focus gave list of local charity shops.
