At the Labour Party conference, Environment Secretary David Miliband promised £10m to help fund projects like wind power. But it has emerged that this £10m will come from cutting schemes to promote double-glazing and insulation. Park Ward's Lib Dem candidate Robin Lawrence said "There is little point building wind farms to provide energy that will be wasted in badly-insulated buildings. These insulation schemes were designed to promote household energy efficiency. This is an area where a lot of energy is still wasted and where people can make their own individual contribution to dealing with one of today's major issues."

Robin went on to say "By robbing Peter to pay Paul, the Government is proving that it is not serious about reducing Britain's carbon emissions. It is outrageous. Both energy efficiency and greater use of renewables are crucial to combating climate change."
