Action on St. Judes Road congestion5.10.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 16th Feb 2007
Thanks to the hard work of Robin Lawrence and the Park Ward Liberal Democrat Focus Team, action is being taken to relieve traffic problems in the St Jude's Road area. Local residents asked Robin Lawrence to investigate the bottleneck in St Jude's Road caused at school arrival and leaving times. Robin is pleased to report that Wolverhampton Council has responded to his call for action and will be working with local schools to implement a "School Travel Plan" that should ease the problems caused in the area. Robin Lawrence was also asked by residents to investigate traffic speeds in the area. He requested immediate action and the council's Traffic Management Office has informed him that a detailed speed survey in the St Jude's Road area is in the process of being undertaken. First results show that the average speed of cars using St Jude's Road is 23 mph (based on a survey of more than 4700 vehicles). Following this first survey Wolverhampton Council has agreed to investigate the matter further by placing another Speed Warning Sign in St Jude's Road over the half term period to record the speeds of vehicles and compare the results with the earlier survey. Commenting on the survey Robin Lawrence said, "I am very pleased that Wolverhampton Council has responded to residents' and Liberal Democrats' call for action. I await the results of the follow up survey with interest. Yet again it has been clearly shown that the only party that acts on residents' concerns in Park Ward are the Liberal Democrats."
