Robin Lawrence is shown the problem yellow lines

Local Resident Mr David Pope stopped Park Ward campaigner Robin Lawrence to show him the newly painted double yellow lines at the very narrow but busy junction of Riches Street and Tettenhall Road. Anyone parking just at the end of the yellow lines will completely block the road. Robin is asking Wolverhampton City Council to extend the lines but at least 10 metres to avoid this danger.

Historical note. Tettenhall Road is the A41 but 200 years ago it was part of the a major coaching route from London to Holyhead. In the background can be seen the Halfway House Pub which in the 18th and early 19th century was a coaching inn and is allegedly named "Half Way" because it was the half way point from London to Holyhead. About half a mile past this inn was a very steep hill which was a serious problem for the coachmen. Extra teams of horses were needed to pull the coach up the hill and passengers were often asked to walk up. Thomas Telford solved the problem by cutting a new route deep into the hill's rock and using the spoil from the cut to make an incline which further reduced the steepness of the climb. Telford, the 20th century new town named in his honour is just 15 miles further on.
