Paul Mehmi - standing for Bilston North

Wolverhampton Liberal Democrats have lodged nomination papers for Paul Mehmi, the youngest candidate to stand in local elections. A new law that has just come into effect means that 18 year olds can be elected to a local council and Paul is 18. Paul will contest Bilston North.

As one of two youth MPs for Wolverhampton Paul highlighted problems with the minimum wage and actions, with others, resulted in the Government increasing it. He is a member of the Youth Council and therefore is well aware of problems and concerns of our younger people.

Paul says "I am passionate about recycling and believe Wolverhampton Council should do more; for instance, recycling plastics and also encouraging schools to take positive action. I want improved facilities in the Bilston area such as more provision for young people in out-of-school hours which will help reduce the amount of street crime."
