Lib Dem Shadow Home Secretary Nick Clegg MP and West Midlands Euro MP Liz Lynne support Robin Lawrence's "We Can Cut Crime" campaign.
Lib Dem Shadow Home Secretary Nick Clegg MP and West Midlands Euro MP Liz Lynne came to Park Ward to support Robin Lawrence's "We Can Cut Crime" campaign. Robin told Mr Clegg that after hundreds of residents had returned his Crime Survey he had taken up their concerns with the Police and other authorities. Very many residents are now displaying his Community Safety cards.
Nick Clegg said that the Government had spent ten years creating 3000 new offences, making criminals of ordinary people and had not made any real progress. Mr Clegg accused Labour of being more interested in pursuing headlines rather than the perpetrators of serious crime. Instead Labour was eroding civil liberties with bans on demonstrations, the world's biggest DNA data bank and their ID cards. He called for transparency in sentencing so that what the judge says is what the sentence is and the abuse of language in which a 'life sentence' means a few years must be stopped.
