Plastic recycling is urgently needed say Claire Darke and Robin Lawrence

Earlier this year Park Ward Liberal Democrats launched a petition calling on Wolverhampton City Council to initiate kerb side collection of plastics for recycling. Councillor Robin Lawrence has now learned that that it will be at least one more year before any sort of regular city wide collection of plastics for recycling is introduced. A spokesman for "Enterprise", the privatised waste-collection service used by the council, told Councillor Lawrence that there could be a small-scale trial of plastics collection taking place by April 2008 but he could not confirm where such a trial might be taking place.

Local environmental campaigner Claire Darke said "Residents are starting to lose patience with the slowness of the council in introducing plastics recycling. Many neighbouring councils collect all recyclable materials so it is about time that Wolverhampton did the same." Park Ward Liberal Democrats continue to campaign for door to door collection of all materials that can be recycled.
