A chance to reunite the Liberal family12.49.51pm UTC (GMT +0000) Sun 21st Oct 2007
Michael Meadowcroft , the former Liberal MP for Leeds West, has this week joined the Liberal Democrats. In 1988 Michael did not join the Liberal Democrats but remained with the continuing Liberal Party. Michael said "the political situation now is very different to what it was 20 years ago when I and a number of colleagues felt unable to commit ourselves to the new merged party." He went on to cite three main reason he felt need attention - the continued occupation of Iraq, ID Cards and the serious threat from xenophobes and conservatives of Right and Left who believe that somehow the British Isles can be floated off into the Atlantic. Colin Ross, Vice Chair of the West Midlands Regional Executive member said "I welcome Michael's decision to join the Liberal Democrats. We now have a chance to reunite the Liberal family, there are still a number of continuing Liberals in the West Midlands and urge them to follow Michael's lead and join the Liberal Democrats."
