CBI Speech - Brown incoherent on Britain's future1.26.29pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 27th Nov 2007 Acting Leader of the Liberal Democrats Vince Cable has attacked Gordon Brown for failing to provide a coherent view on Britain's future. In his speech today to the CBI, the Prime Minister showed his support for the expansion of Heathrow and a new generation of nuclear power stations. Mr Brown also hinted at a rethink on capital gains tax changes which have been opposed by many business people. And he promised tougher rules on people on benefits accepting training offers. Vince Cable said "Last week Gordon Brown spoke about the need to take action on the environment, but today he talked of airport expansion and a new generation of nuclear power stations. This is an incoherent view from a Prime Minister lacking a vision for Britain's future. His support for the expansion of Heathrow shows a flippant disregard for the damage that a growing aviation sector is having on the environment."
