Claire Darke and Cllr Robin Lawrence examine the planning application at the site of the proposed filling station.

Claire Darke, Liberal Democrat Candidate for Park Ward in May's local council elections, has welcomed the proposal for the re-opening a petrol station on Tettenhall Road near the Newbridge Inn. Since the former Esso petrol station closed more than two years ago residents of Clark Road, Larches Lane, Haden Hill and other roads feeding into Tettenhall Road have suffered from traffic backing up due to the over use of the existing Shell station at the corner of Clarke Road.

The section of Tettenhall Road between Cranmore Road and Larches Lane, already a very busy stretch during rush hours, has become a bottle-neck making the area very difficult for cars, buses, cyclists and pedestrians to negotiate due to 24 hour access to the Shell site. The noise and disturbance to residents at times is quite unreasonable.

Claire Darke said "Tettenhall Road is already one of the busiest roads into and out of the city. The reopening of a petrol station would certainly help to ease traffic problems. While all Liberal Democrats are doing their best to minimise the number of cars journeys that we undertake, having to drive further and further just to find fuel for our cars is a poor use of our finite fossil fuel resources."

Plans for the proposed petrol station site include a new retail building, forecourt canopy, pumps, car parking and two ATM cash points.

Claire Darke added "The full planning application can be seen by visiting Wolverhampton Council's Civic Centre Planning Department. The application number is 08/00342. And residents have until 2nd May to comment on the proposals."
