Post Office campaigner June Hemsley selected to stand in Penn for the Liberal Democrats9.26.00am GMT Fri 5th Dec 2008
Post Office campaigner June Hemsley was been selected to stand as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Penn Ward at the next set of local elections in May 2010. June was one of the leading lights in the recent campaign to save the Upper Penn Post Office and is well known in the local community, living on Penn Road. June and the Liberal Democrats were opposed to Labour's closure of the Upper Penn Post Officer. June said "The closure of the Upper Penn Post Office was the last straw, both this Labour Government and the previous Conservative Government have closed many thousands of Post Offices and let our other public services crumble." June is also involved in Grey Wolves, the Wolverhampton Pensioners Action Group and other community groups. Councillor Robin Lawrence said "June has shown her determination having organised one of the petitions to save the Upper Penn Post Office along with myself. We were both keen to see this and other Post Offices across Wolverhampton being saved. I am glad June put herself forward, and was selected, to stand in Penn Ward for the Liberal Democrats."
