Robin Lawrence, Wolverhampton South West Liberal Democrat Parliamentary campaigner has called for more police on the beat in Wolverhampton.

Robin said "Highly visible community policing is a top priority for the Liberal Democrats. It always has been. A greater police and community support officer presence on our streets will reduce both crime and the fear of crime, help clamp down on anti-social behaviour and reduce the number of crime 'hot spots'."

When the Conservatives were in power they police numbers fell and after an initial increase police numbers are now starting to fall under Labour - in 2008 the numbers fell in nearly half of forces. The Government also abandoned their 2005 manifesto pledge for 24,000 PCSOs, and instead delivered only two thirds of that.

Robin added "We will pay for an extra 10,000 police, including 523 in the West Midlands, by scrapping Labour's expensive, ineffective and illiberal ID scheme."
