Wolverhampton South West Liberal Democrats are calling on Wolverhampton Council to undertake a series of measures to help local residents and businesses to tackle the recession in Wolverhampton.

Park Ward candidate Jonathan Webber together with Councillors Robin Lawrence and Claire Darke conducted a local economic survey and asked residents what they wanted done.

Jonathan said "The Liberal Democrats really are the party representing ordinary hard-working people and the small businesses that make up the heart of our communities. We need leadership and action now. Labour continues to bankrupt the economy while the Tories eagerly propose tax cuts for millionaires. Thank goodness for the common sense of Liberal Democrat Vince Cable".

The Liberal Democrats are calling on the Council to offer real assistance to all businesses and individuals, including a robust examination of Business Rates, free or reduced recycling for business and a 'Wolverhampton First' policy where goods and services bought by the Council are sourced locally - to the benefit of the local economy.

Jonathan Webber continued "We want to see investment in people, too. The Liberal Democrats are pushing for more after-school, weekend and holiday clubs to relieve the child-care cost burden. Also we want to see the Wolverhampton Leisure Card reinstated allowing subsidised access to fitness and leisure facilities across the city".

The Liberal Democrats are also calling for Wi-FI hotspots, initially to cover the City centre, and help boost the local economy.

Jonathan Webber urges local residents and businesses to get in touch and add more recession-beating suggestions by contacting the Liberal Democrats at info@wolverhamptonlibdems.org.uk
