Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats sent his best wishes to all those who will be celebrating the Sikh New Year festival.

Nick Clegg said "The Sikh community has made an enormous contribution in helping to build a stronger and more diverse Britain while continuing to be true to the teaching of the Gurus.

The Gurus consistently promoted tolerance and social justice and their message remains as relevant today as it was then.

I believe that our country's cultural and religious diversity is one of its real strengths. Festivals like Vaisakhi are a great opportunity to celebrate this diversity.

As you prepare to celebrate Vaisakhi, please accept my warmest wishes at this special time."
