Liberal Democrats - working for a better NHS

A leading Liberal Democrat in Wolverhampton has warned that a Conservative victory at the General Election could spell trouble for the NHS.

Parliamentary candidate for Wolverhampton South West, Councillor Robin Lawrence has warned residents that many members of the Conservative Party are hostile to the taxpayer funded health service.

Robin was speaking to a meeting of Liberal Democrat members after leading Conservative Euro MP Daniel Hannan attacked the NHS, claiming it made people "iller".

"David Cameron is trying to spin an image of the Conservatives as a changed party," said Robin. "But the reality is that it is the same Conservative Party hostility to good public services lost them three general elections. It's still the same people running the Conservatives. It will take more than spin to prove that there has been genuine change in the Conservatives. Too often, Mr Cameron gives us warm words about how the Conservatives are supposed to be new and improved. And then the reality bubbles to the surface with people like Daniel Hannan attacking the whole idea of the NHS. The Conservative leadership has offered few policies and frankly the people of Wolverhampton and of Britain are not convinced that the few policies they have told us about add up to a real programme for government. With people like Euro MP Daniel Hannan in the Conservative party, the NHS is certainly not safe in their hands."
