Wolverhampton South West Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate Councillor Robin Lawrence has slammed the new Conservative proposals to charge elderly people £8,000 for residential care should they fall ill.
Councillor Robin Lawrence said "The Liberal Democrats are committed to providing free personal care for elderly people for as long as they need it, we have already introduced this in Scotland when we were in power there. Our policy of free personal care will be a universal entitlement and will not be means-tested."
Robin added "The Conservatives proposals of charging everyone £8,000 will hit the poorest hardest. Last year 45,000 people had to sell their homes to pay for their care, the Conservatives may reduce that number but it is only the Liberal Democrats that will provide free personal care for elderly people for as long as they need it."
