Nick Machnik-Foster writes to EU citizens in Park Ward

Park Ward candidate in the local elections on 3rd May has sent a letter to Park Ward electors who are citizens of one the other 27 EU countries. They are entitled to vote in local elections.

Nick wrote:

Vote for the best future of Wolverhampton and the European Union

I am sure you will know that, as a citizen of the European Union, you are entitled to vote in local government elections. Your next opportunity to do this will be in the elections for Wolverhampton City Council on Thursday, 3rd May 2018.

The Liberal Democrats have always been totally in favour of the United Kingdom's membership of the European Union. We acknowledge its weak points but, on balance, think it to be a vitally important project and wish the United Kingdom to be a fully involved and supportive member.

We were devastated when 51.8% of those who took part in the Referendum actually voted in favour of leaving. Since then we have campaigned for maintaining as many ties as possible with the European Union to the benefit of all the citizens of the twenty-eight member countries. We believe that, when the terms on which the UK will actually leave the EU have been agreed, the people of the UK should vote to either confirm or veto what has been proposed. Electors would know exactly what they would be voting for, which was not the case in the 2016 Referendum, a disastrous episode full of propaganda, half-truths and downright lies; never the basis for such a vital decision.
The Liberal Democrat attitude towards the EU contrasts with that of the Conservative Party which is deeply divided on whether the UK should leave or remain and with the Labour Party which is failing to give a lead in either direction.

Nick Machnik-Foster' letter to EU citizens
I believe that continued membership of the European Union will be of great benefit to the multi-cultural community of Wolverhampton, of which you are an important member. In view of this, I ask for your support on 3rd May and your vote for the Liberal Democrats.
