Remembering Paddy Ashdown

December 24, 2018 7:05 PM
By Nick Machnik-Foster

I am devastated to hear of the death of Paddy.

My particular memory of him sums up the man perfectly.
At Party Conference back in 1994, I had my picture taken with him, and briefly talked about my chances in Dudley East.
A few weeks later, at an Election rally in Central Hall, London, whilst surrounded by photographers and their flashlights. he spotted me on the balcony, and shouted "Good Luck in Dudley". I can see why he was so inspirational, whether to the Royal Marines under his command, or to we Liberal Democrats.
He is regarded as a national hero in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to us Party workers throughout the UK.
