Traffic on the Droveway

July 28, 2019 3:31 PM

LEYLA ABBES and the Oxley Liberal Democrat Focus Team have been trying to get traffic calming measures on The Droveway.

Measuring the Droveway

Focus Team members measure the width of the Droveway

Local residents asked them to continue to push for better protection for pedestrians and other car users on this busy stretch of road.

In Focus leaflets, Leyla and the Focus Team reported that drivers frequently go far too fast in this residential area. It can be very difficult to cross the road, particularly near the entrance to Earlswood Crescent where there are two bus stops.

Incredibly, the City Council told Oxley Focus Team that as a result of their persistence, there has been a Traffic Survey which showed that there have been no serious accidents in the area and there is insufficient traffic to warrant a pedestrian crossing!

Furthermore, the Council says there can be no refuge in the centre of the road as it is too narrow. Leyla and the Focus Team measured it to be 7.45 metres wide which should be enough for a refuge. They will continue the campaign!

Leyla has contacted the Traffic Safety section to arrange to operate a community speed camera on this part of the road.
