The former Labour and now independent MP Jared O'Mara has said he will resign in September, a day after announcing he would be taking time out to address his mental health issues. He was suspended from the Labour party when a series of sexist and homophobic tweets, written before he was elected, emerged. He quit Labour in July 2018 and announced he would be carrying on as an independent, refusing to call a byelection.

People in Sheffield will now get their chance to have their say, both on Boris Johnson's dangerous Conservative Government and on Jeremy Corbyn's failure to provide effective opposition at a time of national crisis.

This by-election can send a powerful message for change and the Lib Dems ready for the challenge.
