Spending Review: 'Pathetic piece of parliamentary showmanship with little new to add'

Responding to the the one-year Spending Review announced in Parliament today, Wolverhampton Liberal Democrats chair Julian Donald said:

"Today's spending review was less about funding services, many of which are creaking in Wolverhampton, but a desperate last roll of the dice for this government. We should call this the 'microwave budget' as these announcements have been reheated so often in the last few weeks.

"It was a pathetic piece of parliamentary showmanship with little new to add beyond the theatre of the event.

"The Chancellor said that Brexit would remake the economy. Their headlong rush to No-deal threatens our economic livelihood and thousands of jobs are at risk in the Black Country.

"Today shows, not only, have the government have already run out of ideas, they have run out of legitimacy and are running out of time. This was a Brexit induced car crash from beginning to end."
